The godless don't exist
An interesting insight I heard from a famous clinical psychologist recently is that it does not really matter whether or not you believe in a supernatural being; because whatever you define as The Greatest Good is effectively your god.
Ergo nobody is really godless.
(Remember that not every religion worships a supernatural being, e.g. Buddhism).
Even most nihilists, who truly believe (ostensibly) that life has no objective meaning or purpose, and that all human values are baseless, still advocate that you adopt your own set of values, and create your own meaning, rather than act randomly.
This is basically self-worship with extra steps.
The only way you could be truly and completely godless is if you hold absolutely no values whatsoever, in which case you are completely rudderless, directionless, and literally incapable of any action.
